The Austin chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America became aware of Not In The Plan, and in their quest for understanding of the city, they asked me to give a talk on it on March 6, 2019. I focused on the cliches that a lot of people assume about community organizing and provided many of the historic examples of people of color doing exactly what people would presume, and getting thwarted. There has never been a more critical time to understand the role that race has played in shaping cities in the United States.
Correction: The building name I could not remember at the time was the Juarez-Lincoln university building.
